White: Loan Will Help Improve Water System in Buffalo Township,
Freeport
Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority has
approved a $283,000 low-interest loan to improve water quality in Buffalo
Township and Freeport Borough, state Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21) said today. White said the improvements will address the problem of inadequate water
supplies, poor water quality and the buildup of natural gas in some wells. The PENNVEST loan will help pay for the construction of 8,500 feet of
new, six-inch distribution line and hydrants along Ralston Road and Parker
Road in Buffalo Township, the senator said. It will also be used to replace about 2,500 feet of distribution line
and construct hydrants in Freeport Borough, she added. White said the loan will improve water quality and eliminate threats
to public health and safety. The Buffalo Township Municipal Authority will also use local funding
for the $378,000 project. The 20-year loan has an interest rate of one percent for the first five
years, and 1.18 percent for the balance.
