Sen. White: Apply for $100
Property Tax Rebate Before July 7 Deadline
Harrisburg – Homeowners have until July 7 to apply for a $100 rebate on
school property taxes, Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21) said today.
The one-time rebate is part of the largest round of tax cuts ever enacted
in Pennsylvania, signed into law by the governor last week.
The rebate is for all qualified homeowners, and there are no income
limits, said White, adding that renters are not eligible. Property owners are
eligible if they:
- owned and occupied as the primary residence
the homestead for which they are claiming the rebate sometime between July 1,
1999 and June 30, 2000; and
- paid in full their 1999-2000 school district property
taxes.
Applications should arrive in mailboxes by June 9, said White. Filling out
the form takes about five minutes. There are easy methods to apply – over the
telephone (rotary or touch-tone phone) or over the Internet. Applying by mail
is necessary only if the property owner is on their county’s tax roll.
A rebate check will be sent four to five months after the taxpayer
applies.
White said Property Tax/Rent Rebate recipients can also apply, but only if
they are property owners.
