White: Sept. 1 Deadline Approaching to Apply for Volunteer Firefighters, Ambulance Service Assistance Grants
Harrisburg – A September 1 deadline is approaching for volunteer fire companies and volunteer ambulance corps to apply for a new state assistance program, Sen. Mary Jo White said today.
The "Volunteer Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Act" will provide a total of $22 million in grants to volunteer fire companies and $3 million in grants to volunteer ambulance companies. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA).
Volunteer fire companies are eligible for direct grants of up to $15,000, and ambulance services for grants of up to $10,000, for the following purposes:
- Construction and renovation of facilities;
- Purchase or repair of equipment; and
- Debt reduction.
Approved organizations can expect to receive their checks around mid-October. Organizations that have not received a grant application should contact their County Emergency Management Office or the senator’s office.
