White: Heating Assistance Program Expanding

Liheap Applications Accepted Beginning Nov. 6

Harrisburg -- Applications for Pennsylvania's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program will be accepted beginning Monday, November 6, a week earlier than normal, according to Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21).

White said the state Department of Public Welfare has also increased the income-eligibility limits and the cash and crisis benefits for the program that helps low-income households pay for heating fuel and furnace repairs.

White said the cash-grant program that helps families pay their home-heating bills will run through January 31, 2001. The crisis grant program, which provides up to $400 to take care of heating emergencies, will end on March 15.

To be eligible for assistance, homeowners and renters must meet yearly income guidelines:

Household Size Max. Income Household Size Max. Income
1 person $11,273 5 people $26,933
2 people $15,188 6 people $30,848
3 people $19,103 7 people $34,763
4 people $23,018 8 people $38,678
Add $3,915 for each additional household member
