White: Applications for Growing Greener Environmental Grants Being Accepted
Harrisburg
– Applications for watershed protection and restoration grants under
Pennsylvania’s Growing Greener Grant Program are now being accepted, state Sen.
Mary Jo White (R-21) said today.
The Growing
Greener grant program, entering its third year, is the result of the
Environmental Stewardship and Watershed Protection Act of 1999, sponsored by
White.
More than $80 million in grants
have been awarded in the first two years for a host of environmental protection
and cleanup projects, said the senator, who chairs the Senate Environmental
Resources and Energy Committee.
The
deadline for community organizations and others to submit applications for the
third year of Growing Greener is March 9, 2001.
To assist
in the application process, the state Department of Environmental Protection is
holding a series of grant workshops throughout the state. The workshops will feature grant writing
tips, information on what makes a good project, and sessions on how to apply
for specific project types.
Two
workshops will be offered at each site, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
In Western
Pennsylvania, the following workshops have been scheduled:
- Wednesday,
January 17, 2001, Greensburg Four Points, 100 Sheraton Dr., Greensburg,
Westmoreland County;
- Thursday,
January 18, 2001, Community Center of Crawford County, 1034 Park Ave.,
Meadville.
Additional assistance is available
online at www.GrowingGreener.org.
The website includes more information on the program, including links to the
www.PAWatersheds.org and
www.GreenWorks.tv websites, as well as a
watershed exchange board and a complete listing of grant awards. Applications
may also be submitted online.
