White: Christa
McAuliffe Fellowship Applications Available
Recognizes contributions made by
outstanding teachers
Harrisburg -- Applications are now available for teachers
interested in participating in the 2001 Christa McAuliffe
Fellowship Program, according to Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21)
White said the program
is open to all full-time teachers who are Pennsylvania residents and have
taught in a public or private school, in grades K-12, for eight or more years.
One teacher from each state receives a grant of approximately $40,000 for the
fellowship.
The fellowship is
federally-funded and may be used for professional development, instruction and
assessment, research, or for projects that involve the business community and
schools.
Applications must be
filed by March 16.
“There
are many dedicated, committed teachers in our area who could use this
fellowship to further develop their skills and expand their contributions to
the community,” said White. “I urge
interested teachers to look into the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Program and
consider applying.”
The program honors
Sharon Christa McAuliffe, who died in the Challenger space shuttle disaster of
January 1986. She was the first teacher to serve as an astronaut.
More information and
applications are available through school district administration offices or by
