Local Community Receives State Environmental Grant

(HARRISBURG) – The City of Franklin, Venango County, was recently awarded a $2,365 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), according to Senator Mary Jo White (R-21).

White said the grant was made possible through the DEP’s Recycling Performance Grant Program.  The grant amount was based on the total tons recycled and the municipality’s overall recycling rate for the fiscal year 1999.

“This type of funding helps Pennsylvania communities increase their recycling rates and reach the Governor’s statewide goal of recycling 35 percent of all municipal waste by the year 2003,” White said.
