White: Grant awarded to Clarion
Borough
Harrisburg—Clarion Borough
will receive an $11,060 Recycling Performance Grant from the Department of
Environmental Protection, according to Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21).
The amount of the grant is
based on the total tons recycled and the municipality’s overall recycling rate
for fiscal year 2000. The grant is in
addition to the funds that the Department allocates to municipalities to
establish and maintain recycling programs.
The Recycling Performance Grant
Program helps Pennsylvania communities increase their recycling rates to help
meet the statewide goal of recycling 35 percent of all municipal waste by 2003.
“Recycling is a responsible way to conserve
our natural resources and divert waste from landfills,” said White, who chairs
the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.
