White Announces
$274,000 Grant for Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library
Will help the Rimersburg
facility double its library services space
Harrisburg – State Sen. Mary Jo
White (R-21) today announced the awarding of a $274,277 state grant to help
fund the expansion and renovation of the Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library in
Rimersburg Borough.
"Thanks to the Eccles Foundation and
community supporters, more than half the funds have already been raised for
this project, and this state grant will complete the effort," said White.
"The expansion will allow for more library services, better
access for disabled patrons, and overall more room for
children, adults and staff."
The senator said the project will
expand the library by 2,500 square feet, doubling the area available for
library services. The entrance,
restrooms, circulation desk and other features will be brought into compliance
with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The sidewalks will be replaced and
the parking lot will be repaved, White added. The total project cost is
$581,000, with the state grant matched by $306,820 in local funds.
The Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library
has more than 5,100 registered patrons in southern Clarion County, and has seen
significant growth in interest in its services and programs, said White.
"Libraries serve such a vital role
in communities. They’re a place to gather, to learn, to explore and reflect,"
said White. "Pennsylvania has increased
its commitment to libraries and has created incentives to increase local
support. By working together we can ensure that Eccles-Lesher
and all of our libraries continue their important work."
The grant was awarded through the
state's Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund program.
