White: No Sales Tax on Computers Next Week
Tax-Free PC Plus Week is Feb. 17-24
Harrisburg – State residents will
have the opportunity to save money on computer purchases during Pennsylvania’s
fourth “Tax-Free PC Plus” week, according to state Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21),
who said the sales-tax holiday is scheduled for February 17 through 24.
White said that, during the week, the
state sales tax will not apply to purchases of computer systems or certain
computer accessories for home use.
“This is a
great opportunity for families looking to purchase a new computer or to upgrade
their systems,” said White. “When
you’re talking about purchases such as these, the money you save on sales tax
can add up.”
White said
that all computers purchased for non-business use during the holiday week will
be free of all state sales taxes and the one-percent local sales-and-use taxes
imposed in Allegheny and Philadelphia counties. Shoppers can also purchase computer
products through the mail or over the Internet and pay no sales tax.
Customers must pay for the computer
during the tax-free week in order to receive the tax break, even if the system
is delivered later.
This year
the sales tax holiday is designated as a “PC Plus” week, meaning many computer
accessories, such as printers, scanners, CD-ROMs and Internet-access devices,
will be tax exempt, too.
“In previous Tax-Free PC weeks,
consumers saved an average of more than $100,” said White. “It’s good for consumers and good for the
economy.”
