White Resolution Marks "Girl Scout Week" in Pennsylvania
- March 9-15
Harrisburg
– This week is "Girl Scout Week" in Pennsylvania, designated by a Senate
Resolution sponsored by state Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21).
The
resolution was approved unanimously last week.
Across Pennsylvania, more than
150,000 girls in 13 regional councils are developing self-confidence,
self-esteem, discipline and sensitivity through their participation in Girl
Scouts, White said.
"A girl's education is enhanced and
enriched by her Girl Scout experience, and Girl Scouting takes an active role
in increasing the interest and skill levels of today's youth in science and
technology to fulfill our country's economic needs," said White.
White said that for 91 years the
Girl Scouts has inspired millions of girls and women throughout the nation with
the highest ideals of character, conduct and patriotism, making Girl Scouts of
the United States of America the largest organization for girls in the world.
"Girl Scout troops have been led by
volunteers who have donated their time and expertise, leading troops, serving
on boards and councils and providing stewardship for the organization, which
makes it possible for any girl, regardless of race, religion or socioeconomic
circumstances, to become a Girl Scout," said White. "I hope
everyone uses this week to pledge their support for the Girl
Scouts, an organization that inspires young women and
strengthens communities."
