Environmental Education Newsletter
Now Available for Teachers, Parents and Students
White works to preserve funding of
Slippery Rock-based Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education.
Harrisburg – Information to help
teachers and parents educate students about the environment is available
from the Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education, said state
Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21), who is working to preserve funding of the
center.
Based at Slippery Rock University, the
Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education makes learning tools
available to teachers, home-school parents and students, said White, who
chairs the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.
White said the center's latest "EE
Connections" newsletter is available online. Highlighted in the
newsletter are: Finding and Choosing Environmental Education Materials,
new resources on biodiversity, invasive species, integrated pest
management and a new "Wade Into Watersheds" program.
"The Pennsylvania Center for
Environmental Education is a statewide resource for environmental
education materials, with a special emphasis on Internet resources,"
said White. "The center was established to provide increased public and
private access to a balanced environmental education. Protecting the
environment is our responsibility as citizens, and educating ourselves
is crucial in meeting that responsibility."
The state Department of Environmental
Protection recently indicated funding for PCEE would not be renewed
after the current fiscal year. White is working to preserve state
support.
"The Pennsylvania Center for
Environmental Education provides young Pennsylvanians with the knowledge
necessary to be good stewards of the environment," said White. "I am
confident the administration understands the importance of environmental
education. The state Secretary of Environmental Protection recently
hosted an environmental education summit. I hope to work with the
administration to address their concerns and ensure continued funding
for PCEE into the future."
