White: $165,000
Grant Awarded for Zero-Discharge Biodiesel Plant in
Clarion County
Grant would study feasibility of project in Paint
Township
Harrisburg – State Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21)
today announced the awarding of a $165,000 state
grant to study the feasibility of constructing a
state-of-the-art, zero-discharge biodiesel plant in
Paint Township, Clarion County.
The senator said New Castle-based Enviro
Biodiesel would use the grant funds to determine
necessary improvements to infrastructure,
engineering design and site assessment.
The production plant would use soy oil in
innovative continuous flow, zero-discharge
technology. The facility will feature recovery and
reuse of excess methanol, water recycling and a
compact design. Enviro Biodiesel is planning to be a
major supplier in the biodiesel market.
"This is an exciting possibility for our region
and for the future of alternative fuels," said
White, who chairs the Senate Environmental Resources
and Energy Committee and co-sponsored legislation in
2004 to make more grant funds available for
alternative fuel projects. "Making Pennsylvania a
leader in soy-based and other alternative fuels will
create jobs and reduce the nation's dependence on
foreign oil."
The First Industries Agriculture Planning Grant
was approved by the Commonwealth Financing
Authority, created by the legislature last year to
fund up to $1 billion in economic development
initiatives across Pennsylvania.
