White: Butler Area Effort to Help Hurricane Katrina Victims Underway

Requested items may be taken to Hindman Hall in Butler

Harrisburg – State Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21) today urged area residents to support the local effort to provide aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina. 

White said that local members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and several local business owners have put together a list of items that are needed and a process for collecting it. 

The senator said that Hindman Trucking LLC of 121 Hindman Lane in Butler has stepped forward to be the Butler Area gathering, staging and shipment facility. As the items are gathered, they will be loaded into trucks and directly delivered to specific distribution centers located in the devastated states. 

All donations may be taken to Hindman Hall. Hindman Hall will accept only the items listed below. However if your organization has already begun gathering items and needs them picked up, please email James L. Thompson, President of Calvary Lutheran Church at butlerhelpskatrina@zoominternet.net and he will arrange the pickup of those items. Please provide your name, address and phone number.

Pedilyte Gatorade
Chainsaw with: Chain brake, catcher, spark arrester Chainsaw chaps and boots with steel toe
Gas can and gas Rubber boots
Gallon sized water Generator
Extension cords Power strips
Electric cords  
Water purification tablets Sunscreen
First Aid supplies Batteries
Battery powered radios Coolers
Tarps/Visqueen Duct tape & other adhesives
Roofing nails Tools - hammer, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc
Work gloves Shovels
Blankets Matches w/waterproof container
Diapers-cloth and disposable Cleaning Supplies:
Bleach/Clorox Clorox wipes, etc
Industrial Size Push Brushes Garbage Bags - heavy duty
Garbage cans Face masks
Paper Towels Toilet paper
Food supplies: Canned food
Manual can opener Cooking tools
Paper plates NON PERISIABLE food items
Food items for infants and elderly Food for special diets - salt. sugar, etc.
