Senate Committee to Hold Hearing on Radiation
Levels at Landfills
Harrisburg – State Senator Mary Jo
White (R-21) today announced that the Senate Environmental
Resources and Energy Committee will conduct a public hearing
on radiation levels at landfills.
The hearing will be held Wednesday,
June 28, 2006 beginning at 9:00 AM in the Senate Majority
Caucus Room (156 Main Capitol Building).
The purpose of the hearing will be to
receive testimony on radiation levels – including tritium –
at municipal waste landfills. Tritium, a radioactive
variation of the chemical element of hydrogen, is most
commonly found in illuminated exit signs.
Representatives from the Department of
Environmental Protection, the Nuclear Information and
Resource Service and a landfill operator will provide
testimony to the committee. Other interested individuals
are invited to submit written remarks to
energy@pasen.gov.
A hearing agenda, witness testimony and
transcript will be posted on the Committee's website at

information becomes available.
