Senate Committee Approves "PA Climate Change Act"
Will meet tomorrow to consider HSCA funding.
Harrisburg – The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, chaired
by Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21), today approved the Pennsylvania Climate Change Act
and sent it to the full Senate.
The measure, Senate Bill 266, sponsored by Sen. Ted Erickson (R-26), would
create a committee to advise the state on climate change issues and identify
green economic opportunities in Pennsylvania.
The bill was amended by Senator White and Senator Erickson to:
- Create an advisory committee that will be appointed by House, Senate and
Governor.
- Ensure that the climate change report and action plan examines and
reflects the diversity of viewpoints on climate change.
- Require the state Department of Environmental Protection to utilize a
third-party facilitator in working with the advisory committee.
Tomorrow, the committee is expected to consider Senate Bill 1100, sponsored
by Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) and Senator White, to fund the
Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act. This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October
24th at 10:45 AM in the Senate Rules Room.
Senate Bill 1100 would direct $17 million to the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Fund
out of legislative accounts for the current fiscal year, and earmark $40 million
in existing capital stock and franchise tax revenue until this tax is phased out
in 2011.
